Restaurant owners make west side home

When José Robledo first came to the United States in 1976, he says he had no idea he would eventually settle in the Indianapolis area and run his own business.

“I moved to L.A. from my home in Mexico over 20 years ago,” he said. “I have lived in L.A., Chicago and now here in Indianapolis.”

Robledo and his wife, Marina, are owners of La Posada Mexican Restaurant on 10th Street. He says family members pitch in to help them run the business.
The Robledo family is originally from Atolinga, Zacotecas, in Mexico. And when Robledo first came to the U.S., he wasn’t married.

“I met her on one of my holidays home, back to my town,” he said.

The couple now has four children who attend Wayne Township schools.
In addition to extended family here, the Robledos say they have many friends and acquaintances who have helped them get settled over the past two months.
“There are many people from my home town who own businesses here and in Chicago,” Robledo said. “And it’s nice because we help each other. I just ask them where to go to get things done.

“We have reunions here for people from our town. With the money we raise, we do projects back home.”

The next such event is called Gran Baile. It’s scheduled for May 10 at the India Community Center.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Robledo said. “And they have games for the kids.”
Since the Robledos took over ownership of La Posada last month,

they’ve made a few changes. Robledo said they will have a mariachi band play in the restaurant from 6 to 9 p.m. May 9.

“And if it goes well, it might be something that we do once a week,” he said.
La Posada is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week at 7355 W. 10th St., near O’Malia’s Supermarket.
